About

I have been a freelance web designer and builder for the last ten years, following two years running a web services office and tutoring IT classes. I am based in London and received my BA in Information Design in 1996.

I have created web, intranet, extranet, email newsletters and CD-based sites for clients including Tate, Save the Children, Visa and a host of others.

Methodology

When required I work on-site as part of a team (with project managers, programmers, Flash designers etc.), operating within their corporate structure, representing them in client meetings and working within their house style.

For clients who require a website created from scratch, I would first sit down with them to discuss their needs, from which I can then design the Information Architecture. Next I work on the visual design, creating a home page and internal page using Photoshop. Once this has been approved I move on to the site build in HTML, adding other elements as required - ASP, forms, streaming video etc.

Accessibility

My clients' sites can be viewed in all the major browsers (IE, Firefox, Safari etc.), platforms (PC, Mac) and screen resolutions. They are controlled by CSS (stylesheets) to enable design updates across all pages. I am also helping my clients work towards the latest w3c accessibility guidelines.

Updating sites

The sites are designed to be updated by the client if they wish. Often the site has to work within an existing CMS (Content Management System), in other cases I have helped develop a bespoke admin tool and for smaller clients I often train them to update the site themselves in a package of their choice.
